Before the storm
Description
About a mile down a narrow country lane which turns into a dirt track you will find the isolated church of St.Cosmas and St.Damian in Challock, Kent.
( Saints Cosmas and Damien were from 4th century Syria, and were noted for their care and healing of animals )
Built to replace a wooden Saxon church this church was built in the late 11th or early 12th century of local flint and ironstone.
The name Challock comes from the old English 'Cealflocan' - calf enclosure
